The Leftwing media and the failed DC foreign policy establishment have been having a meltdown over President Trump’s reference to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as “Rocket Man,” and have spent the past two days suggesting that giving Kim a demeaning nickname is somehow indicative of a lack of diplomatic acumen, or maybe even mental imbalance, on Trump’s part.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry said President Donald Trump’s United Nations speech may have put America in isolation and danger.
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show Wednesday, Kerry criticized Trump’s harsh rhetoric against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Kerry said, “You have to ask yourself: Is America safer because of ‘rocket man?” He was referring to Trump’s characterization of Kim.
Kerry said that kind of harsh language will make it harder for the United States to engage in diplomacy on North Korea and other international issues.
Kerry seems to have forgotten that back in 2014 the North Koreans once referred to him as, “A wolf with a hideous lantern jaw,” and also described Kerry as a “wolf donning the mask of sheep.”
The trigger for these insults was then-Secretary of State Kerry’s statement saying Washington wants to see peace on the Korean Peninsula.
During the Obama years North Korean officials routinely unleashed a slew of crude insults against leaders in Washington and Seoul, calling President Barack Obama a monkey and South Korea’s then-President Park Geun-hye a prostitute.
After North Korea hacked Sony Pictures in retribution for the movie “The Interview,” a film with a plotline about the assassination of Kim Jong Un, the North blamed Obama for disrupting its Internet access.
“Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest,” an unnamed spokesman for North Korea’s ruling body, the National Defense Commission, said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.
It wasn’t the first time North Korea used racist language to refer to Obama. In an article titled “Divine punishment to the world’s one and only delinquent Obama,” the government-run news agency stated: “You can also tell this by his appearance and behavior, and while it may be because he is a crossbreed, one cannot help thinking the more one sees him that he has escaped from a monkey’s body.”
After the North Koreans launched a series of missiles and prepared for their fourth nuclear weapons test South Korea and the United States issued a joint statement condemning the provocations.
This prompted the North Koreans to refer to South Korea’s then-President Park Geun-hye as an “old prostitute,” a reference to her close relationship with the United States.
Lest you think that this North Korean diplomatic language was limited to the Obama years, we assure you it wasn’t.
During the administration of President George W. Bush, the North Koreans, then led by Kim Jong Un’s father, Kim Jong Il, denounced then-Under Secretary of State John Bolton as “rude human scum” for pointing out that they were in violation of a Clinton-era deal to abandon their nuclear weapons program.
The past two days of establishment meltdown show just how little the Democrats and the Left-leaning foreign policy establishment understand the North Koreans and the language of their diplomacy, where name-calling is a highly refined art.
We think the record shows that the North Koreans only understand tough talk and smash-mouth diplomatic rhetoric because that’s how they address international adversaries.
Far from making it harder to deal with North Korea, President Trump’s direct and clear statement of intentions, coupled with language that is straight from the North Koreans’ own diplomatic lexicon, makes it more likely he will be understood and taken seriously by Kim Jong Un.
